This course explores the strategic role of purchasing and supply management in organizations. It emphasizes how effective procurement practices contribute to achieving organizational objectives, competitive advantage, and sustainable supply chain performance. Students will examine sourcing strategies, supplier relationship management, cost management, risk mitigation, ethical and sustainable procurement, and the integration of technology in supply management. The course combines theoretical frameworks with practical case studies to equip learners with the skills to make strategic sourcing and supply decisions.

This unit “Conduct Public Procurement” provides learners with a comprehensive understanding of the public procurement function within supply chain management, focusing on Kenya’s legal, regulatory, and institutional framework. It covers how to plan, source, evaluate, award, and manage public procurement contracts in a transparent, ethical, and efficient manner. Through a mix of theory, case studies, and practical exercises, the course enables participants to navigate the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act (PPADA), apply procurement best practices, and contribute to value-for-money in public spending.
